Candies, Saints and Cowboy Boots

Yesterday was the most controversial day in our home. It's ordinarily known as "Halloween". Will hates it with all his being and I love it. I love it because that's the only night in America when you knock on the door most people will open it and come out and say "hello". That's the only night most Americans are neighborly. That's the point of view of one who did not grow up in America and have to live in it. I love all the little kids dressed up and parents walking with them house to house, people opening their doors and giving out candies to the children with a smile. In fact my friends know how much l love this holiday- Lynn and Adrian actually sent me a bouquet of mixed candies. It was delivered a few days a head but I waited till the right day before I offered it to visitors who came to my office. It made my day ( I helped in eating part of it!!!). All Hallows eve is what it is all about. It is not something secular at all if you dig deep into the root of what is now known as "Halloween". I will write more about it later. Tomorrow is "All Saints Sunday". I will write more after church tomorrow. Yesterday was significant in our Texas life. I bought Will 2 pairs of Texas Cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. He loves them. The sales man Jim at the store was very interesting - born in Dallas and raised in Houston and is a retired rodeo clown. A real Texan! If you live in Clear Lake you don't meet that many real Texans, you know. Having met a guy like that who was very friendly and cheerful and very patient with all my silly questions was such a treat. Mind you I was not asking about boots or hats, but all about "Cow Boys and Texas". He said that after too many trips to the hospital and broken bones his wife put her foot down and he quit being a rodeo clown. He told us all about the Rodeo in Houston that will be in Feb.-early March. I can't wait. It sounds really fun. One thing I will say about people in Texas- they are friendly and kind. How does this fit with our faith??? Of course it does. We are to be hospitable to all we meet for fear that we may be entertaining the angles. Jim would really pass the test. If he was that hospitable to us oddly couple he surely will be hospitable to an angel. He even gave us his card just in case we will return for more boots or cowboy hats or more stories of his rodeo days.
