Experiments can be delicious!

Joshua and i were playing in the kitchen the other day because he wanted to learn how to cook this summer.  To begin with, it is almost always fun to be with this child (of course he has his moments!), it is even more fun that he is now interested in domestic science!  He loves to eat chicken so he wanted to learn how to make chicken dishes that are easy and tasty.  We both love to eat Tandorii Chicken at Indian Restaurants but never made it at home. We decided to experiment with it at home. First, I showed him how to cut up a whole chicken.  I will let him do the cutting in a few days to come when he is 17 years old.  After that we wash the chicken pieces in cold water.  Put them in a shallow baking dish, mixing them with vegetable oil and then coat them with dry Tandori Masala Spice.  We bake it for 45 minutes at 425 degree heat in the oven.  See the picture below for the outcome.  Joshua was very happy to see what we had made, he even plated and garnished it all by himself. It was delicious eaten with plain steamed Basmati rice and vegetables.

In my family children always travel during summer holidays and are taught other things besides school work, things that are fun and playful.  I used to learn how to fish, how to weave etc.  What fun to be a part of a family that knows when to play and have fun together....It reminds me of one of my father's favorite Psalms in the Bible which she shared with us so often when we were growing up:

Psalm 133

1 How very good and pleasant it is
when kindred live together in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil on the head,
   running down upon the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
running down over the collar of his robes.
3 It is like the dew of Hermon,
which falls on the mountains of Zion.
For there the Lord ordained his blessing,
   life for evermore.
