Elvis Presley Stop

I visited Elvis Persley's home called "Graceland" yesterday morning. This was not a coincidental tour. It helped me somehow in my grieving of my mother's death. While I can not really articulate the "how" part, I know it was meaningful in the process of my grieving. On the tour I learned that Elvis was born to a rather poor pair of parents. He promised them as a boy that some day he would work hard and give them a comfortable life. That's just what he did. I was so moved by the fact that there was a nice bedroom for his parents in that house. They all lived together, ate together in that big kitchen, entertained in that lovely dining room, and they had many good family times in that large family room. The house was much more humble than I had expected. His play rooms, i.e. his TV room, pool room, etc were out of the way - in the basement. I could almost feel the way they had lived in that house. I could almost hear their voices, laughter, conversations, music, family singing etc. The commentator said that Elvis was known to buy and give away cars to people but he never gave away any that his mother liked. His father ran the business end of Elvis' life. I was really touched by the stories of what a loving, respectful and generous son he was. I was moved by the word I heard of his life at home. I did not know Elvis had sung gospel songs. I bought a CD of it. I am so glad that I visited Elvis's life in the home in which he had lived. I wonder if he prospered because he loved and honored his parents. This experience reminds me of: • Proverbs 4:1 "Listen, children, to a father's instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight..." • Colossians 3:20 "Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord" • Ephesians 6:1 "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right"
