Chicken Porridge: provider of comfort

Yes. I do write things in a backwards sort of ways sometimes.  Yesterday was nice and sunny in the afternoon after a few gloomy days without the sun to be seen.  I was even out and about yesterday afternoon.  In the gloomy January days I was not very happy inside.  I miss my mother who died on Jan 3rd two years ago, to be precise.  Well, yesterday as I was leaving my  house to meet friends, I thought to my self, " I am making chicken porridge for supper".  Just like that with no particular reason.

I did make the porridge.  While the porridge was cooking on the stove in a big pot, I thought of my mother which warms me inside very nicely. And then I remembered how she loved to eat that so very simple dish almost any time of the week, month or year.  Needless to say that we ate it often as children.  Some times we ate it for breakfast, some times for lunch, some times for dinner and sometimes even for midnight snack.  I had not thought of how this chicken porridge is one of the most comforting foods there was for me.  For all I know it might have been the first solid food I ever ate as it was for all my siblings!

Will happens to fall in love with it the first time I made it.  Thank God for that!

Last night, at the end of his long work day as he entered the house Will said, "Alright! we are eating chicken porridge."  After giving thanks to God, singing in Mizo,
"Aw Lalpa chaw leh thil tinreng, min pek a vaing in ka lawm e,
i rawng bawl turin min pui la,
Isua Krista hming a vang in.
Amen.",
we ate that simple and marvelous comfort food.

Oh, yes, there you see in the picture fried fresh garlic, roasted pepper from Myanmar, and fresh cilantro.  What you don't see in the picture are a bit of fish sauce and freshly squeezed lime juice.
